Full Version: WHITE ALBUM
The Beatles > The Beatles > The Beatles
speculator
I read today that the original title for "The Beatles" AKA the White Album was going to be called "A Dolls House" until an album by the english group Family called "music in a dolls house" was released in '68.

Anyone else ever heard this?

I think it's a pity because this would have been a wonderful title for the varied, odd, jumble of tracks on the white Album.

You're absolutely correct, A DOLLS HOUSE was one of the working titles of THE BEATLES album. Also, the cover for the post break-up, Parlophone compilation album, THE BEATLES BALLADS was a strong candidate to be the cover of A DOLLS HOUSE.

I could be wrong on this... but ... as I once heard a possible cover design for this album could have been a newspaper frontpage like design. In the end it was decided that an all white cover would be used.

I didn't know that. Do you recall where you got this info?

If memory serves, I read that in either a magazine article or a book on the Beatles. I remember that peice of White Album folklore was circulating about the time I bought my first copy of the album in 1977.

Now, weather or not it is a true historical artifact of the White Album remains to be seen. I can offer my own opinion on it. With the newspaper design of Somewhere In Time by John Lennon the story carries some truth to it. It could have been an idea he liked and it never worked out for a Beatle record, so he saved the concept for one of his solo releases. Again, this is just my own thought on the subject.

Did you mean SOMETIME IN NEW YORK CITY?

The story sounds plausible.
