Paul doesn't focus on how instruments work
[from Contact Music]

Sir Paul McCartney refuses to care about how his instrument works when he is song-writing - instead he concentrates on the tunes and lyrics.

The former Beatles star was asked about his guitar by a fan in a shop recently, but he couldn't answer the question because he has never paid attention to its intricate details.

He says, "I went into an instrument store in New York and this guy said, 'I'm a bass player and I've always wanted to know what strings you use'.

"I swear I wasn't trying to be funny when I said, 'Long shiny ones'."
